Happy New Year in Taiwan 2020

The start of my 2020 was awesome because I got to celebrate New Year overseas. It was my second time to celebrate in a foreign country rather than Malaysia. My first time was in Seoul back at the end of 2015.

My friends actually planned this trip one year ago when AA had sales. Our flight ticket was around RM600+. Flight ticket was cheap but the accommodation was not cheap during this peak season.

In 2018, we traveled to the left side of Taiwan. This time, we traveled to the right side of Taiwan which covered Yi Lan (宜蘭) and Hua Lien (花蓮) We spent a total of 11 days in Taiwan from 29 Dec 2019 to 8 Jan 2020.

29 Dec 2019

We actually wasted half a day because our flight was at 5pm-ish, want cheap flight ticket, hence the weird timing. Our flight actually got delayed a bit because the need to queue to take off. I guess a lot of people were also flying off Malaysia to celebrate New Year somewhere else.

We reached Taoyuan Airport about 11pm-ish. Then we headed to buy sim card. By the time we were done, it's already 12am+, 30 Dec 2019 hahaha. A rainy night welcome us to Taiwan.

We headed straight to the car rental place. Waited the guys to do their procedure, then we drop by a 7-11 nearby for our supper.

Met Jihoon at 7-11 though.

We drove from Taoyuan to Tai Chung for our first stay. By the time we reached our Airbnb, it's already 3am-ish. Super tired.

30 Dec 2019

Took a selfie because I did my makeup and hair nicely. We had brunch at a nearby restaurant that is walking distance from our Airbnb.

First stop : 大甲镇湳宫 (Dajia Jenn Lann Temple)

Must drink during every visit.

Next stop : 东海大学路易斯教堂 (Luce Memorial Chapel, Tunghai University)

This chapel is really pretty actually. At least I don't feel wasted during our walk there. It was a super long journey from our car park.

We had our dinner at Feng Jia Night Market, then strolled around the night market.

31 Dec 2019

We checked-out from our Taichung Airbnb and headed back to Taipei just to countdown at Taipei 101. On our journey back, we headed to 峨眉湖 (Emei Lake) because it's in the same way back to Taipei.

While on the way back, we dropped by Gloria Outlet near Taoyuan Airport to shop for a while. I got myself a pair of Guess jeans for only NTD 1000, approx RM140 during the conversion I exchanged at that time.

Back in Taipei around 8pm-ish, settled down at our Airbnb then walked around Ximending for dinner.

Tried the famous 三妈臭臭锅西门町

After dinner, we took the subway to Taipei 101 to find a nice spot to watch the fireworks.

Selfie while waiting 12am.

It was such a nice experience to see this up close.

After the fireworks ended, the journey back to our Airbnb was chaos. All subway stations were so crowded with people and we had to walk passed a few stations only managed to take the subway.

1 Jan 2020

On the first day of 2020, we woke up super early to start our journey to Hua Lien (花蓮).

清水断崖 (Ching Shui Cliff)

Hua Lien Container Starbucks.

2 Jan 2020

Packed our luggage, then off we headed to some tourist spots and to Yi Lan. We walked to a nearby wet market to have breakfast. This noodle is surprisingly good.

大石鼻山 (Da Shi Bi Trail)

豐彬天空步道 (Feng Bin Sky Walk)

石门麻糬洞 (Shi Men Ma Shu Cave)

Yi Lan biggest claw machine shop. It wasn't that big though.

3 Jan 2020

As always, popped by a random shop for breakfast.

忘龙碑 (Wang Long Pi)

As stated above, 明池国家森林游乐区 (Ming Chi Forest Recreation Area)

We were supposed to go to another tourist spot, but by the time we reached this Ming-Chi Forest it's already late, so we stayed until 7pm-ish then we headed back to the night market nearby our Airbnb.

4 Jan 2020

Pack our luggage again and off we headed back to Taipei.

Must try this breakfast stall when you're in Yi Lan, 城隍早餐 (Cheng Huang Breakfast Stall).

国家传统艺术中心 (National Center for Traditional Arts)

Super adorable Alaska

5566 Wang Ren Fu's Hotel at Yi Lan, PLAY HOTEL. We had a high-tea break over there.

金车伯朗咖啡城堡 (Mr. Brown Cafe)

蘭陽博物館 (Lanyang Museum). The specialty of this is because of the design I guess?

Back in Ximending, Taipei and to look for Lucky!

5 Jan 2020

Started our journey all way to 陽明山 (Yang Ming Shan).

MUST HAVE THIS FOR SUPPER! 滷味 (Don't know how to translate this in English, basically all dishes are braised)

6 Jan 2020

This view is from 象山自然步道 (Xiangshan Hiking Trail).

After that we headed to Taipei 101 for some shopping.

Cannot miss out Din Tai Fung when in Taiwan.

Blurry photo nevermind.

Malaysia cannot eat Ichiran, so go Taipei must eat!

7 Jan 2020

Basically on this day, we did nothing much. Just souvenir shopping around the last minute.

Dan Shui.

We also went to Shi Lin Night Market but I didn't snap photos of it.

Since it's our 2nd last night, eat all things you want. Hot Star Fried Chicken is a must in Taipei.

And also our favorite Hunan Food!

8 Jan 2020

Last day in Taipei, we just walked around Ximending and also went to Taipei Main Station. But nothing much at Taipei Main Station in my opinion la.

Jay Chou's Milk Tea store, MACHI MACHI.

Re-create Jay Chou's pose.

That is all for my 2020 Taiwan trip. Till next time we meet again, Taiwan.
